About the Author
Elena Taylor spent several years working in theater as a playwright, director, designer, and educator before turning her storytelling skills to fiction. Her first series, the Eddie Shoes Mysteries, written under Elena Hartwell, introduced a quirky mother/daughter crime fighting duo. She is also the author of the standalone suspense novel, The Haunting of Emily Grace.
With the Sheriff Bet Rivers Mysteries, Elena returns to her dramatic roots and brings readers much more serious and atmospheric novels. Located in Washington State, Elena produces tense and suspenseful investigations for a lone sheriff in an isolated community.
Her favorite place to be is at Paradise, the property she and her hubby own south of Spokane, Washington. They live with their equines, dogs, and cats.
My Thoughts
This book is about a murder in a small town called Collier. Sheriff Beth Rivers aka Bet and FBI agent Rob Collie went to check on the carnival grounds that were looking to open up the next day. Which led to the discovery of a body with no apparent wounds behind one of the tents. A random gunshot moments later. Leads to a full-blown investigation. Bet has her hands full trying to fill her dad’s shoes while having to interact with a past lover. She did it all so gracefully. The fact that the murder happened at a carnival with all the leery characters made it just that much more creepy, as when I think of a carnival or fair, lots of times the people seem to be sketchy-looking and acting. Loved the setting of this book, and obviously Bet was my favorite character; she navigated the transition & awkward situations so well!! Check this book out!!
