Includes a vintage recipe!
It’s spring! And that means… strawberries!
But if you’re like me, you have a million things to do, and too little time to do them. So this is an ultra simple Strawberry Shortcake Shortcut, a kind of a cheat to make it easier, but still super delicious!
Of course, it isn’t a complete shortcut, because you do have to make a simple strawberry sauce ahead of time, but it, too, is super simple!
This sauce recipe is from the website Sally’s Baking Addiction (I’m giving you the link, and she has tons of other wonderful recipes to peruse!) to make it even easier. It really does take just a few minutes:
Sally’s Baking Addiction strawberry sauce:
Ingredients for the strawberry topping:
1 Tablespoon Cornstarch
3 Tablespoons warm water
Zest and Juice from ½ small lemon
¼ cup granulated sugar
1 pound of strawberries, hulled and halves. Reserve one raw whole strawberry to top each dessert!
With that made, the rest of my Strawberry Shortcake Shortcut is a matter of assembly!
Other ingredients:
One vanilla pound cake, sliced.
Whipped cream in a can
1 – Make the strawberry sauce according to Sally’s Baking Addiction recipe and set aside.
2 – Slice the pound cake, or cut into pretty shapes. I used a heart shaped cookie cutter!
3 – Assemble the dessert servings; the Sally’s Baking Addiction recipe says to use the strawberry topping warm, so I did, but that certainly made the whipped cream melt quickly! I saved raw strawberries back, enough for one for the top of each dessert, sliced it, leaving the top intact, then fanned the strawberry to make it pretty!
The strawberry sauce is also nice over ice cream!
So, that is my fast and easy Strawberry Shortcake Shortcut!
Enjoy spring, and strawberries, and maybe a cup of tea with my book Masher of Ceremonies!
About the Book
A fundraiser for the local historical society nearly goes bust when someone fills the coffers with blackmail and murder . . .
The annual Tea With the Queen fundraiser always makes for a festive weekend in Queensville, drawing visitors from far and wide and giving local shops a welcome boost. This year, vintage kitchenware collector Jaymie Müller is running the event, and she’s got her hands full organizing old and new volunteers along with a surly catering crew. Then her master of ceremonies tells her he’s being blackmailed but can’t go to the police, and before Jaymie can sort that out she stumbles over a dead body at the tea.
Despite the demands of keeping the event up and running, Jaymie can’t help puzzling over the murder. There’s no concrete evidence linking the cretin behind the blackmail scheme to the dead body, so she begins questioning everyone connected to the blackmail, hoping to expose the killer. And just as she discovers a web of relationships that leads her to the culprit, she realizes that the Tea With the Queen may have been a royal pain, but outwitting a blackmailer and catching a killer may be the death of her . . .
