Some hearts don’t need fixing. They need time—and the courage to hope again.

But when love appears quietly, will Deborah and Luke be ready to risk what they’ve built?

In the charming town of Cardinal Creek, Deborah Clemmons has found peace and stability after a difficult past. She’s content with her quiet life at the Old Hughes place, where she’s found meaning in transforming the farmhouse into a shelter for women in need.

Fire Chief Luke Erikson understands the value of careful living, shaped by his own losses. He believes love should be patient, honest, and kind. As he and Deborah grow closer, their relationship feels safe and steady in ways neither expected.

When a fire threatens the shelter, Luke makes a choice meant to protect Debora, fracturing the trust they’ve built. As Deborah fights to save the shelter and the life she’s reclaimed, she faces a difficult truth: protecting herself may mean standing alone.

In a town where people show up and hearts remember, Deborah must choose between retreating into safety or taking a chance on love.

Their Healing Hearts is a later-in-life small-town romance about second chances, found family, and the courage it takes to choose what comes next.

Perfect for readers who enjoy later-in-life romance, like The Inn at Rose Harbor, and heartwarming stories about community and love, such as The Quilter’s Apprentice. Don’t miss out on this emotional and uplifting read.

Excerpt:

There were still things to do before she could deliver the quilt. She wanted it waiting when he woke—private, quiet, meaningful. Maybe it would matter more that way. Or maybe—her stomach tightened—she wasn’t ready to face him. Not with her heart this exposed.
Her fingers trembled as she wrapped the quilt in brown craft paper, smoothing the edges and creasing the corners with her thumbnail. The twine bit gently into her palm as she looped it twice and cinched the knot tight. She paused with the pen over the small quilt-block card, then wrote.
It’s not about mending what is broken. It’s about honoring what survived. —D.
Her handwriting looked small and unsure, but she tucked the card into an envelope and threaded the twine through it. It felt like tying a piece of herself to the package.
She plated a warm cinnamon roll on a navy paper plate, covered it with foil, and added a note: Enjoy. —Deb. With everything tucked under her arm, she reached for her keys. But as the latch clicked behind her, a sudden thought rooted her in place.
Luke might answer the door.
She froze at the top step, keys dangling from her fingers. The cool morning air scraped her throat, and her pulse quickened.
For three long seconds, she considered retreating inside.
Then she whispered, “Sometimes you do things even when afraid,” and walked toward her SUV, shoulders squared.
Fog clung to the pastures lining the road to Luke’s ranch, soft and silver as the world shifted from night to morning. Birds began their chorus as Deborah’s heart hammered faster.
His house appeared simple and rustic, with a porch wrapping around it and a swing beneath the window, much like the farmhouse she’d fought to save.
She parked and stepped out, drawing a steady breath. “Thank you for the repairs,” she murmured. “And for believing in me when I couldn’t.”
Her pulse raced as she climbed the porch steps. She set the quilt carefully on a chair, placed the foil-covered plate beside it, then turned away without daring another glance.
She hurried back to her SUV, breath caught tight in her chest—praying he wouldn’t see her, and praying just as hard that he would.
